Advantages: 

1. Problem-based learning (PBL)supports higher performance in congnitive skills.
2. Many strategies available for solving problems, such as;  algorithms, heuristics, learning groups
3. Students using problem-based learning integrate new concepts and ideas more completely.
4. Is learner centered

Disadvantages:

1. Problem-based learning is a paradigm shift from teacher-centered learning
2. Requires more planning to teach PBL skills
3. Requires more motivation in class
4. Mental set, students & teachers afraid to venture away from what has worked in past and seek new solutions.
