Advantages & Disadvantages
Advantages:
- Problem-based learning (PBL)supports higher performance in congnitive skills.
- Many strategies available for solving problems, such as; algorithms, heuristics, learning groups
- Students using problem-based learning integrate new concepts and ideas more completely.
- Is learner centered
Disadvantages:
- Problem-based learning is a paradigm shift from teacher-centered learning
- Requires more planning to teach PBL skills
- Requires more motivation in class
- Mental set, students & teachers afraid to venture away from what has worked in past and seek new solutions.
